A Former Prosecutor Defending Clients in Wyoming and South Dakota
I get asked this question a lot. It depends on the nature of your employment. Some employers require that once a person is arrested that they disclose the arrest to the company. If the newspaper prints the result of the court case, because they are entitled, it is an open hearing, they are entitled to print those hearings and the results of those hearings, then the employer could find out through the media. Also, if the employer requires a driving record to be brought every few years, they will see the DUI arrest on your driving record. A lot of times for insurance purposes, the insurance carrier, if you have a company vehicle, will not allow a person with a DUI to be in a vehicle insured by their company. Those are the factors that you need to take into consideration if you have been charged with a crime. I always recommend that prior to doing anything, you come in and visit with a criminal defense attorney.
